2019 Hyundai Santa Fe.
My in-laws asked for my advice on a car purchase. I recommended a CX-5, they loved the new Tiguan, they were asking about an Audi Q5, Acura RDX, and a used Mercedes something or other. So naturally, they called to say they bought a Hyundai. It wasn’t even on my radar.
How did they like this better than the new Tiguan or CX-5?

I know I like how it looks and have put Hyundai on the shopping list for when our lease is up on the family hauler
The new large crossovers Hyundai / Kia are also interesting

If they’re looking for a competent, reliable, point A to point B SUV?
Hyundai’s a great, no nonsense, no BS choice. If the dealer isn’t crap at least. Simple, reliable, generally no problems, and holds resale astonishingly well.

It's probably the better choice overall, but I do like the TigJuan...

It’s “ A crossover”. Nothing more nothing less. I watched a couple of reviews sometime back

Probably deep discount and a great warranty. I rode in a loaded 2018 during a long Uber ride and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was inside. Miles ahead of the Honda CRV, which is supposed to be the gold standard for CUVs, in comfort, style and NVH.

The Santa Fe is quite a bit bigger than either the Tiguan or CX-5 so more metal for the money?

I think they got it down to the same level as the mid range Tiguan... Not cheap by any stretch!

They didn’t want “big”. She even thought the ‘19 Tiguan was too big.

The Santa Fe is a true midsize crossover while the Tiguan is a large compact/almost midsize and the CX-5 is squarely in the compact range.

Well, that one is grey and assembled in a factory.
